Dosakaya pappu recipe | How to make andhra style yellow cucumber,tomato papau recipe


Dosakaya pappu recipe: Andhra style yellow cucumber dal to serve with rice or chapathi. Andhra style dal recipe are mostly made with leafs green or vegetables like palak,methi,goungura,tomato, gourds and cucumber.There are different ways of preparing pappu. One common method is to add all the ingredients and pressure cook.Then mash and add tempering ingredients like,green chilies, garlic, tamarind and ghee are used to suit one's taste. To make andhra pappu most people use lot of red chilly powder,green chilies and tamarind to make sore and hot.Due to these ingredients the dish gets a deep orange to red color.


A simple dosakaya pappu recipe:

INGREDIENTS:

1 cup Toor dal
12 Green chilly
1 chopped small Onion
2 big size Tomato
5 Garlic cloves
1/2 tbs Red chilly powder
1/4 tbs Turmeric powder
1/2 small lemon size Tamarind
Salt to taste
1 pinch Hing
Oil
Tempering: mustard seeds,cumin seeds,chanadal,urad dal  - 2 tbs
Red chilly - 3
Curry leaves(1 spring).


STEP BY STEP PHOTOS TO MAKE DOSAKAYA PAPPU RECIPE:

.Wash and peel cucumber and chop them into medium size peaces.
.Heat a pan add toor dal dry roast,untill light brown,( Taste of the dal will increase).


.Take a pressure cooker add toor dal,green chilly,chopped tomato,tamarind,chopped onion,turmeric powder,water,  dosakaya peaces and pressure cook  till u get 3 whistles(I am using pressure cooker to boil my  dal/you can do the same procedure with out pressure cooker  also,(using pressure cooker  will save  your time and gas).

.For tempering heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds,cumin seeds let them crackle add chana dal,urad  dal,red chilly saute till they turn lite brown.

.Now add garlic cloves,curry leaves,hingsaute for 2 minutes and add onion  saute untill onion turn golden brown.



.Now add  boiled(pressure cooked) and mashed dal mixture,red chilly powder,salt mix well and cook it in a low flame for 5 minutes.


.Finally garnish with cilantro and  switch off the flame.


.Now your tasty and easy dosakaya pappu is ready to serve with rice,chapathi and dosa.
